HDM Specialty Gas Engine Oil Solutions for Biogas Challenges

HDM Specialty Gas Engine Oil Solutions for Biogas Challenges

The energy industry places very high performance demands on stationary gas engine lubricants. Drawing on its extensive experience in this challenging field and its innovative research and development program, HDM produces the best-in-class gas engine oil with the highest performance and longest drain intervals on the market.

Focus on engine type characteristics

Each engine type has its own specifications and requirements. By focusing on these specific characteristics, HDM is able to develop and manufacture products tailored for each different engine type. No wonder the HDM product range for the energy sector is by far the broadest on the market.

Gas engines in particular are subject to extreme operating conditions, especially around the combustion chamber. This leads to significant challenges in terms of oxidation and deposit control, as well as total base number (TBN) retention. The "Clean Technology" of the HDM range is the perfect answer. These oils have outstanding advantages:

  • High anti-oxidation and anti-nitrification ability, long service life
  • Low sooting tendency and good resistance to early ignition
  • Excellent anti-wear properties protect the engine from valve seat pitting
  • High TBN retention for high acid neutralization capacity

Comparative test with biogas engine

In order to prove that HDM gas engine oil has the best performance, we carried out some comparative tests between HDM products and other OEM-approved A brand competitive products. The results speak for themselves.

Test 1: Trouble-free operation and extended drain intervals

For the first test we went to a big company that produces biogas. Our test object was an INNIO Jenbacher J 320 gas engine. The client's requirements were both clear and challenging:

  • problem-free operation
  • Extended oil change intervals
  • low deposition tendency

When using traditional stationary gas engine oils in the past, customers noticed a clear correlation between ash content and deposition tendency. This is not the same as "Clean Technology" HDM which controls deposits better than most conventional motor oils. HDM's extra detergent capacity extends oil drain intervals by 25%. Along with continued problem-free operations, all customer needs have been met.
