How to Avoid Oxidation Layers in Turbine Oil

How to Avoid Oxidation Layers in Turbine Oil

Varnish is a form of lubricant degradation that can lead to the formation of unwanted deposits. In a turbine system, few fault conditions can interrupt operation as quickly and completely as a painted control valve. It can happen in the best maintained machines, even if the oil isn't particularly old or contaminated. HDM turbine oils have increased resistance to varnish, which increases turbine stability and extends its service life.

Paint Film Control

In recent years, an increasing number of reported cases have been linked to varnish formation in turbine applications. HDM's extensive research and development efforts have resulted in a range of turbine oils that control varnish and guarantee a longer product life.

HDM is extra treated for better gloss and aging resistance. Due to their excellent solubility, these oils avoid the formation of deposits on turbine components, thereby improving turbine stability and cleanliness.

Longer product life

To demonstrate the superior performance of HDM turbine oils, we conducted tests at a PowerGen customer in Germany. We propose to lubricate one of the customer's three Siemens gas turbines with HDM turbine oil. During operation, samples are taken from the turbine system for laboratory screening and evaluation. The results of the aging test confirm that:

Improve paint film resistance

  • +25% Extended product life
  • One solution for all turbine types

The HDM range provides high performance turbine oils for steam turbine and gas turbine circulation systems.

HDM has a proven track record in turbine applications where reliability is critical and operating conditions are demanding. Gas and steam turbines using HDM oil can expect a long, trouble-free service life.
